FLYFISHING LINKS
MIDDLE FORK OF THE SALMON RIVER, IDAHO 2007
My trips just keep getting better and better. On this trip I rafted down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River and fished with SOLITUDE RIVER TRIPS. This was my first time to Whitewater raft and camp along the way. The people where great and once again I made some great friends. Here is the slide show.
WILDERNESS PLACE LODGE
LAKE CREEK, ALASKA 2007
What
a trip. I went fishing for King Salmon this year at a wonderful
lodge called WILDERNESS
PLACE LODGE . Once again I flew into Anchorage but this
time I took a float plane 30 minutes out of Anchorage to Lake
Creek. I had never been on a float plane before and that was
just thrilling.
The
fishing was unbelieveable. We started at 6a.m., had breakfeast
and lunch on the river and then went into the lodge for dinner.
We then went back out and fished until 11p.m.. Needless to
say my arm was a bit sore. Dan was my guide for the
week and truly had the patience of Jobe. He was very calm
while I on the other hand was hyperventilating while I was
trying to reel in the fish. The mantra for this trip was:
Stay calm and breath.
There
were some really great folks on the trip and I made some great
new friends. Seth and Matt, along with their Dad, Dick were
from Rhode Island. Kevin and his Dad, R.C. were from Georgia
and Tennessee. Seth caught the biggest fish of the group at
35 lbs. Matt caught the most. Mine weighed 24 and 18lbs.
Jason
is the owner of the lodge and has done an excellent job of
putting together a very personable staff, from the housekeeper
all the way to the guides. The food was incredible. If you descide to inquire about the Lodge, tell Jason I sent you.
The
river was just beautiful with the largest ferns I have ever
seen. The wildlife was captivating, Eagles, Beaver, Bear,
Moose and Merganser.
I
can't wait to return next year, but until then I will have
to remember the good times. Click here

ALASKA 2005
This had to be one of the greatest
trips I have taken in a long time. Carol Eix (a customer and
friend from the store) and I headed to the Alaskan Wilderness
for 6 great days of fishing and what turned out to be a whole
lot of laughing and meeting some great new friends. Carol
and I were the only women in camp. There were 4 guides, a
chef and camp helper and 7 other fisherman, 3 from Michigan,
2 from Australia (one of whom now lives in Houston), an Englishman
and a fellow Austinite.
Getting there was an adventure.
We flew to Anchorage, arriving at 1a.m. CST, went on to King
Salmon, Alaska, where we were picked up in a 6 seater Cessna
to be flown to our camp. We flew over Tundra and active Volcanoes.
The camp consisted of a cook
tent, dry tent(which stayed moist most of the time), shower
tent(yes it had hot water-Bless you Russ), an out house and
about 10 sleeping tents.
For the most part the weather
cooperated, though we did have a couple of days where it was
just too damp and cold to go fishing.
The wildlife was awesome. There
was a family of River Otters that lived in the Bay below us,
Seals, Bald Eagles, and lots and lots and lots of Bear. Hey
Bear, Ho Bear was the phrase of the week, The guides yelled
that as we were walking to our fishing spots to frighten them
off. Needless to say Carol and I stayed close to the guides,
since they had the guns.
I could go on and on about the
trip but I don't want to bore you, so click
